Job summary

Cardiothoracic Ward is a combination of elective and emergency admissions, and this will be predominantly where the ACP will be. They will also clinically manage cardiothoracic patients within the cardiothoracic ward and outlying wards in areas such as, emergency department, acute medical assessment unit.

This job is being advertised as a qualified 8a ACP or a Band 7 Trainee with a view of upskilling to an 8a. A Trainee Band 7 will only be considered if a suitable Qualified ACP is not found. If appointed as a Trainee, Once all competencies are achieved and formally assessed, the trainee ACP will progress to Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner. The ACP team are hard working and a key aspect of the Cardiothoracic MDT.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) is required to be an experienced registered healthcare professional working at an advanced level in clinical practice, who will exercise autonomy and decision making in a context of complexity, uncertainty and varying levels of risk, holding accountability for decisions made. The ACP will be able to manage clinical care in partnership with individuals, families and carers responding to differences in cultures, demographics and populations. Utilising critical analysis and synthesis in dealing with complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative solutions to enhance people's experience and improve outcomes.

The trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) will be an experienced registered healthcare professional who is expected to work towards advanced level clinical practice. The tACP will work under clinical supervision to meet the capabilities or competencies required for the job, outlined below.

The level of supervision will depend upon the tACP's knowledge, skills and capability which is expected to increase during their development; the tACP must work within their own limitations and scope of practice. The tACP will develop and exercise a degree of autonomy and decision making in a context of complexity, uncertainty and varying levels of risk, holding accountability for their decisions, such cases should be included in their portfolio of evidence and discussed with their supervisor.
