We have an exciting opportunity in our pharmacy department for an Operations Manager for our Pharmacy Quality Assurance department at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.

The Pharmacy Department provides a fully comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust and to several external community units. We are a large and very busy department with over 180 members of staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, science medical technicians, admin and clerical staff. There are many varied roles, and we all work as a team to provide the different functions and services whilst maintaining a high level of patient care.

Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt, and supply of medicines to wards and departments throughout the Trust/external units. This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units and supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day. Wards and external units are provided with a clinical service with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation and supply of chemotherapy and other sterile products. We have a Quality Assurance team that works to ensure that our products are prepared and supplied to meet the highest quality standards.

We are a very busy, large department in a fast-paced teaching hospital; therefore, the ability to be able to work under pressure and respond to a frequently changing environment is essential.

The Operations Manager, Pharmacy Quality Assurance will be responsible for the overall management and development of Quality Assurance in Pharmacy Services, including:
• Quality Management Systems for aseptic manufacturing and stores activity which falls under the MHRA Wholesale Dealer Licence
• Unlicensed medicines
• Defective medicines
• Tutela temperature monitoring system and temperature mapping
• Medical Gas Testing to the Trust and External Customers
• Environmental monitoring

The post holder will carry out their duties in accordance with:
• The Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice
• Good Laboratory Practice
• Trust policies and procedures
• Regional Quality Control systems

The post holder will be expected to maintain links with the Regional Quality Assurance Specialists to ensure in-house practices are in line with current national legislation. They will be expected to work on their own initiative within guidelines from the Head of Pharmacy Services or their deputy, and to manage staff, resources, activity and information in the day-to-day operations and strategic development of Quality Assurance.

The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday with a current requirement to work one weekend every ten weeks in the dispensary and to cover at least one bank holiday annually. Part-time hours may be considered. All rotas are subject to review at any time.
